Restorative Dentistry in University Park, Texas
Oral health problems can threaten proper function and aesthetics, but there are a range of restorative dentistry options for managing and correcting issues. If Dr. Hume discovers problems like decay or damage during regular dental checkups, he can then recommend the right restorative dental treatment to address the problem, while maintaining his commitment to conservative dentistry. Our top priority is maintaining our patient’s oral health.
Restorative dentistry includes a range of treatments, from the simple to the complex. Dr. Hume can correct a small cavity or completely reconstruct a damaged smile with various tooth replacement techniques.
Composite Resin Fillings
Dr. Hume uses composite resin to create fillings for cavities and to correct small chips and other minor damage. Composite resin fillings have become the standard of care because this material resembles natural tooth structure and is tissue friendly. In the past, the material most commonly used to create dental fillings was silver amalgam, which is a combination of metal and materials that left patients with dark spots on their teeth. Composite resin blends in with natural tooth, giving fillings a more aesthetic appeal. Also, metal tends to change size with changes in temperature. Metal free fillings protect teeth from further damage of expanding and contracting metal.
Crown and Bridge
A tooth that is a bit too damaged for a filling or a tooth that has had root canal therapy is typically restored with a crown. Crowns are a restorative dentistry option that offers more protection than fillings. A bridge is a dental prosthetic held in place with crowns to replace missing teeth. Made from aesthetic porcelain, crowns and bridges can offer solutions to a variety of oral health issues.
Dentures and Partials
Dentures and partials are removable dental prosthetics. These treatments may be the correct solution for certain patients where tooth loss or severe tooth damage has threatened ongoing oral function. These restorative dentistry options are some of the oldest forms of tooth replacement, but have consistently evolved to be more functional, comfortable, and beautiful.
Dr. Hume has continued his education throughout his career, learning new techniques for delivering the widest range of restorative dentistry solutions possible. He studied with Nobel Biocare and Dr. Ken Hebel, leading names in dental implants, to offer this most modern version of tooth replacement.
